A series of photographs showing a WW1 down tank which was donated to Spalding.
The final photograph has a ladder propped up against it and a man is climbing up to join others standing on top of the tank. The Mark IV pattern tank (No. 2647) was received at the Session House grounds in Spalding on 12th August 1919. It was presented to Spalding by the National War Savings Committee as an acknowledgement for the town’s efforts in providing investments in National War Bonds and War Savings for World War One. The reception of the tank was reported in the Spalding Free Press, this photograph was most likely taken on that day.
This may also be the tank used to help fill the breach in the wash bank that caused severe flooding to Spalding.
