Then and Now – Top of Pinchbeck Rd.
United Reform Church on the left is still there and about to celebrate 200 years I believe, However on the right the Peacock Inn has gone. Does anybody know what the spire on the right was connected with?

Hi – The spire belonged to the “St. John’s Free Church of England” (see Aspects of Spalding 1790-1930; pp 130-131). Built in 1874 out of corrugated iron. Last service was in 1890. I remember my dad saying that when he was an apprentice at the Levertons site on the other side of the road in the 1940s they called it the “Tin Tabernacle”.
It was probably demolished when Levertons expanded. Leverton’s owner, Geoff Myers lived in the The Grange next door and expanded Levertons buildings where his back garden used to extend at the side of Westlode Street.
