Soames & Co Pop Bottling Plant, Spalding

This photo shows the pop bottling plant of Soames & Co at the Brewery, Cowbit Road, Spalding. Dated 1950

The Brewery was built by Henry Bugg in 1809 south of the Love Lane/ Cowbit Road junction, behind Westbourne House where the family were to live. Henry Bugg also had a boat for importing wines and spirits. After the Brewery was handed down a couple of generations, with a family name change to Burg it was sold in 1892 to Soames & Co. After a period of consolidation nationally in the industry, the final owners were Watney Mann who used it for storage. Brewing having ceased in the years after World War 2. The Site was demolished about 20 years ago and private housing now stands on it, although Westbourne House, and some Cottages

  1. A most interesting photograph, but if it dates from 1950, then technically it is of the era of Steward & Patteson?
