Hole in the Wall

The view down Hole in the Wall Passage showing what was supposed to be part of the Priory Wall. Sadly all that is left is a few stones embedded in the new wall of Beales Department Store. On the right of the picture is a store, can anybody tell me its name and what it sold?

  1. The shop on the right of the picture, which you asked after, was Donington Wallpaper & Paint (found on old planning authority maps).

They utilised several buildings dotted around town from time to time, and the building to the rear of Boots (when Boots was at 7 Market Place) was the largest I think. Boots later took over this rear section occupied by Doningtons, and redeveloped it into an extension to their own shop.

    1. Thanks I have just found map showing the shops in the 1980’s
I will do it as a separate post
