The Gem was built on the corner of West street and Station Street opening around the late 1920`s has far as I could make out. It closed after the screening of `Jet Storm` on Saturday 2nd April 1960, was later demolished the site is now a supermarket.
The correct year of the Gem opening was 1924, on opening it was known as the `Picturehouse`. In 1925, it`s owners the two Tiller bros (Local farmers) renamed it Alexandra Palace, after being leased out to Jim Bradley of Spilsby in 1936, it was Mr Bradley who renamed the Gem.
