Trains at the platforms, Spalding Railway Station 1950’s

This photo shows two Trains at what i believe to be platforms 4 & 5 at Spalding Railway Station in the 1950’s. There is also another train further back. If anyone can confirm the platforms, or identify the trains then please leave a comment. Thanks.

  1. I’d be very grateful to anyone who can help me to acquire a photograph of my family home: the railway house near the level crossing on Winsover Road, Spalding, Lincolnshire. It was pulled down in the late 1970s. The address was 77a Winsover Road. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    1. Hi Brian,

If you type “winsover” and “Spalding station” into the search box, then select search you will see our online photos. At the bottom of the page click on older post to see the next page. Hopefully you might see what you are looking for.

      1. Dear Geoff,
Many thanks for the suggestion. I found some great photos of course (especially the one of trains at the station, platforms 4 and 5) but none, alas, of the old railway house (where I lived continuously from 1946 [birth!] to 1965). We had a photo of the house taken from St John’s Rd, on the other side of the tracks, but it was lost… I’ll keep trying.

  2. Class 4MT No. 43063 waiting to depart for Bourne (train going on to Nottingham via Saxby) in Platform 7; Other Passenger train headed by Ex-LNER Class J6, No. 64260 also waiting to depart (for Kings Lynn at11.20a.m.?) from Platform 6, this train having arrived from Bourne and Nottingham. I believe the year to be 1958/9 in the period coming up to closure of the ex M&GN system at the end of February, 1959,

The train in the distance has just passed through Platform 5 and id a goods train which may be going on towards Boston or be an arrival from the Sutton Bridge direction with a local goods train.

The other platforms were as follows: – No. 4 – north facing bay to store passenger stock (the school train) between Nos. 5 and 3; No. 3 for trains from Sleaford and Lincoln (also Colwick Coal trains) to March; No. 2 – for trains from Boston , Skegness and Grimsby (the main line) to Peterborough North and London (Kings Cross). This was the original passenger platform in 1848. No. 1 was the short bay alongside No. 2 which was occasionally used by local (short) passenger trains for Sutton Bridge and parcels traffic.

    1. Hi Thanks for your information and indicating the copyright. I have 9 photos of what I believe to be trains at Spalding Station. Could you help with more information if I send them to you?
      Regards
      Geoff
